Ragdoll Cats - General Description

Ragdoll cats belong to one of the most popular cat breeds in the world. These are large, longhaired cats with amazing, big blue eyes. Their light-colored bodies have darker Siamese-type points on the face, ears, legs, and tail. An ideal Ragdoll cat is well balanced. If a male is altered, it may reach the weight of 20 pounds or more. Females are smaller and look more feminine. They usually weigh about 8-15 pounds.

In temperament, these are very gentle and loving animals. Rag doll cats are sometimes called "man's best companions." The largest breed in the world, the Ragdoll cat also has a big heart and adores its humans. Even-tempered and docile, these cats are a pleasure to own. The cat is very good with children and tolerates other pets in the family as well.

Exceptional Personality

Ragdoll cats got their name due to their relaxed and laid-back temperament. Calm and quiet, these cats are very affectionate and loving. Intelligent and versatile, they are sometimes compared with dogs. These cats can be easily voice-trained to come when their name is called. The Ragdoll cat can be trained to walk on a leash also. Due to their mild temperament, they should be kept indoors, as they are devoid of fighting instincts.

Colors: Ragdoll cats traditionally come in four colors: Seal point, Blue point, Chocolate point and Lilac point. Coat patterns come in six colors: blue, seal, chocolate, red, lilac, and cream. Seal is one of the traditional coat colors in the cat breed. The body color can range from fawn to brown. The points are deep seal brown. In a blue variety, the body color is ivory to bluish white. In lilac, the body color is warm magnolia.

Coat: The medium-long coats of this cat breed are relatively easy to groom. The cats have bushy tails. The fur is longer around the neck and on the back of the hindquarters. The cat's fur does not tend to mat; however, it requires occasional grooming. A gentle brushing with a long bristled brush on a regular basis is highly recommended. A bi-color pattern is characteristic of the cat. Colorpoint, mitted and bicolor are the usual patterns in Ragdoll cats.
